Shelves: young-adult, fantasy, kindle, 2018, reviews, assassin, faeries

In the first half this felt like a middle book. SLOW. Nothing really happened. Sure we have a mystery but not enough was done with it. In Throne we had a competition and murders, in this one.. dinners and kisses.

Crown of Midnight - the second book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas - is every bit just as perfect, emotional, shocking, and dangerous as the first.

I absolutely love this series to bits. Everything about it draws you in. The writing is phenomenal; everything is so beautifully described and the world building is sensational. The plot is obviously very well thought out and there is never a dull moment.

This book will go to my list of sequels I definitely liked. Seriously, I loved this book more than the first one. It’s more dynamic and action-packed. So many things happened! More mysteries and riddles appeared and this excites me very much. It was engrossing to read about Celaena’s adventures and her attempts to solve intricate riddles. From the first book I really wanted to see Celaena doing her job as an assassin and finally we saw her in action. I had really mixed opinions of Chaol and his relationship with Celaena in this book. At the beginning it was nice to see how he cared for Celaena, though sometimes it was too much. But when they started “dating” (I don’t know how else to call their relationship), I didn’t know if I should be happy or not. I ship them and don’t ship them and I still can’t decide. It was sad to see Chaol being so shattered after their breakup but on the other hand it was sort of his fault. He should’ve told Celaena about the threat to Nehemia’s life so his conscience would be clear. However, his behavior can be understood as he has been serving the king for a long time and can’t get rid of loyalty to him immediately. But to my mind, he should’ve warned Celaena anyway. Even if they had failed at protecting Nehemia and the princess had been killed, Chaol would have known that he had done everything he could and Celaena would have been with him. Anyway his suggestion about sending Celaena to Wendlyn for her own safety was noble, as he would have to abandon his position of captain of the royal guard and come back home which is the same as disgrace for him. There is an apparent contrast between Chaol in Throne of Glass and Chaol in Crown of Midnight. In the first book he was grumpy and reserved while in this one he showed so many feelings and emotions that it was unusual to see him like that.

All in all, this book is really absorbing and full of action and mysteries. The ending gives us a hint that the most exciting adventures are coming. ...more

This was AMAZING!! It had so muh depth and the charaters developed so much. The relationship between Chaol and Celaena was beautiful and I'm hoping for further development in other books. I don't know why I waited so long to read this because it was so damn good! The plot twist at the end seriously blew my mind. I couldn't believe it, there had been no hints at all but its a twist I'm looking forward to exploring more. Can't wait to continue with this series. ...more
