I cannot express how much I loved this book and how much of an impact it had on me.
The characters were brilliant and the storyline was so unexpected but amazing. The writing had a lot to do with this.
This is the first Markus Zusak book I've read and I was just blown away by the writing. It was unlike anything I've ever read before and the words and sentences and chapters were just so beautifully constructed.

If you're planning on reading The Book Thief, read it now. If you're not planning on reading The Book Thief, read it now.
I just finished this masterpiece of a book and I honestly don't know what to write, other than that this book is brilliant. So brilliant. Markus Zusak's writing somehow managed to punch the breath out of me, because I am pretty sure I did not breathe correctly after I finished reading his words. The writing.... WOW. So lyrical and poetic, so raw and real, so almost-dreamy-but-so-down-to-earth, so gorgeous and filled with crazy evocative imagery... his style is mind-boggling.
The characters were so REAL. Leisel, Max... oh, Max... Rudy, Papa... and Death. It's scary how human Death was....
The book was simply, undeniably, completely gorgeous. It gave so much emotion to what could just be an awful idea: the Holocaust. With a name like that, it carries so much emotion that we tend to cease ...more

I think that this book deserves more than 5 stars. The Book Thief is one of the best books that I have EVER read. I am sure that when I am fifty years old I will still remember this amazing book. I cannot wait for the movie! I first picked up The Book Thief this summer, I started the first Chapter
but didn't get into it. I don't think I was ready for it, and I am glad I didn't read it this past summer. I started reading it again because the movie was coming out and I wanted to read it before the ...more

OMG. This book is a definite must read for all ages. I'm not gonna lie, I heard most people absolutely bawled at the end of this book but...I don't often cry when I'm reading a book unless it's "OMG I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE THIS IS SO SAD". But I can tell you I shed one tear. ONE TEAR. That's a lot for me! I can not wait to see this movie and shed another tear. It's funny. I actually had to read this book for class. :) And everybody knows how I hate class reading!!! But this book will always be my
