Obsidian (Lux, #1) in The Wide Web of Friends in YA Books

I don't know why smokin' hot bad boys are so in right now, but who cares?!? Daemon is no exception and we love it, don't we girls?!? Jennifer Armentrout knew what she was doing when she picked this cover! What can we learn from this cover that will hint at what we are about to get into? Well obviously we assume it's meant to be Katy and Daemon (since we know that the story is about them, duh). Daemon looks strong and in control while Katy is clinging to him and looking away. This is pretty darn accurate in my opinion (also I've read the book so I know!) Daemon is super controlling, but only because he's lost so much already and he feels it's his responsibility to look out for everyone. Katy relies so heavily on Daemon now because her world has just been turned upside down, but she's hellbent on proving that she's not some useless human. With that being said, when you start this book Daemon is a total and complete douche canoe (Katy's words, not mine) and you're probably going to hate his guts, but keep going I promise it will be totally worth it!

Katy has just been thrown into this crazy world she never thought existed and she's freaking out a little bit that her neighbors are aliens. Justifiable! Not to mention Daemon is the most attractive jerk she's ever met in her life! Katy's mom decides to pack up their lives and move to West Virginia the summer before her senior year. Coming from living on the beaches of Florida her entire life, Katy isn't too thrilled about this move, but she transitions the best she can for her mother's sake. It doesn't take long for her to meet her teenage next door neighbors, Dee and Daemon. The 2 most beautiful people she's ever seen in her whole life! Dee is gorgeous with the perfect body and hair and bright green eyes, and Daemon, oh Daemon, he's tall and muscular and perfect and just dreamy also with bright green eyes because he and Dee are twins! How about that genetic makeup, huh? Oh and did I mention that the first time Katy meets Daemon he comes to the door shirtless!! When he opens the door what does Katy do? She just stands there awkwardly gaping at all of his manliness. Brilliant first impression! Anyway, Daemon is an insulting jerk from the moment he opens his mouth, and Katy pretty much hates him now, who could blame her? Even though Daemon is the last person she ever wants to be around, she and Dee become very close, very fast. And when you hang out with one twin all the time you are bound to have the occasional run in with the other twin. Little did she know what she just stumbled into with being around those two and how it's going to change her life forever. And with that, Katy's story begins!

This was my first alien book, and it was by complete accident! I didn't read any reviews before buying it because it was only like $2.99 on my Nook. The cover intrigued me so I bought it. That was a great decision because it was well worth it in my opinion. It was exciting, super witty, fast paced and I am pretty sure I read it one sitting because I needed to see what was going to happen with Katy and Daemon that badly! I love Katy so much. Probably because she is just like me and you. The book loving blogger who enjoys virtual reality almost as much as actual reality! She's a very well put together narrator though, unlike some other books I've read where the female lead is flighty and whiney and irrational! Not our Katy though, I thought she was very strong as a narrator. She was obviously indecisive about Daemon, but that's because he was so hard to figure out! And Daemon reminds me so much of Jace (Mortal Instruments) which is a very good thing indeed! Katy and Daemon have so much chemistry and tension that you can literally feel it! I guess I should also mention that while all of this crazy tension is happening Katy is discovering about good and bad aliens and how the government knows about all of this, but can't be trusted. Like I said, there is a lot going on in this book!

Overall it's a great story that keeps you interested from cover to cover. One that I definitely haven't read before, and I highly recommend it! Oh and I also loved the extra scenes Jennifer added that are in Daemon's POV, very nice touch! And if you loved this story you'll be pleased to know that there are 4 more installments in the Lux series currently available and another one on the way! Woohoo! ...more

I have been postponing this for a while, but I randomly grabbed it a few days ago and read it in one sitting. It was really awesome!

Ok, just.... OH. MY. FREAKING. GOD. I'm in love, so so in love!!!!!

This is WAY better than the series by Pitticus Lore!!!
So much sarcasm, which I LOVE because I'm that way myself.
And the characters! Omygosh I'm in love with Katy, Daemon, and Dee!
Katy I immediately fell in love with. She's smart, loves books, has quick wit, and isn't afraid of anything! Which is awesome because I can't stand a weak main character, especially a girl.

Este es el primer libro sobre aliens que leo y me gusto muchísimo :)
Amé a la protagonista (yay, al fin, una protagonista de YA que no dan ganas de golpearla cada cinco segundos) porque además pude conectarme muy fácilmente con ella.
Obsidian es un libro de muy rápida lectura, lleno de acción, diversión y romance.
La única razón por la que no le doy cinco estrellas es porque creo que en general la trama es muy similar a la mayoría de libros paranormales/de fantasía, si reemplazamos los aliens por v ...more

Oh God! Jennifer is definitely one of the best authors ever! This is the first book I've read of hers in which she's using this name, (The other ones I read, she was using the name J. Lynn.) and this is just amazing. I see now why the hell it is rated so high, especially for a paranormal YA book. It is freaking hilarious. I can't help but laugh. I'd have a laughing high every 2-5 minutes. (Sometimes less.)

This book has a hint of the "Lorien Legacies" by Pittacus Lore and "Twilight" by Stephanie Oh God! Jennifer is definitely one of the best authors ever! This is the first book I've read of hers in which she's using this name, (The other ones I read, she was using the name J. Lynn.) and this is just amazing. I see now why the hell it is rated so high, especially for a paranormal YA book. It is freaking hilarious. I can't help but laugh. I'd have a laughing high every 2-5 minutes. (Sometimes less.)

This book has a hint of the "Lorien Legacies" by Pittacus Lore and "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. (And wait! It isn't as bad as you think Twilight haters. It just so happens that there are a bit of similarities with the paranormal aspect (view spoiler) and it also, in a way, makes fun of it.) But it is still its own. It's not a repeat of some other book, this is a first. (I guess it was already a first considering there's barely any (probably the only one) alien YA paranormal (not sci-fi, although this sort of was. But it's still shelved as paranormal) book out there.)

Now, I'm pretty sure everyone is interested in the hero of the book: Daemon. Well... yes, as it says in the synopsis, he is a douche. Or a dick. Whichever suits you best. He just won't stop with the insults. I just want to shout at him and say "Hey you f**king douche! You don't know her well, and she never did anything to you so stop insulting her and being this giant dick!" I'm sorry, but he is just that much of a @$$h0|e. I guess that his being of a douche does sort of have a charm, (or maybe it's just me) but after you see his reasons, he ain't that much of a dick no more. (which is about a bit more than half way through the book.)

For the heroine. Kate is the best ever! And let me tell you, she ain't no Bella Swan. (Sorry twihards, but it's true) She is kick@$$! Love her! She didn't fall for any of Daemon's $h*+ and even flipped him the bird when he first insulted her. She didn't even throw herself on him when he apologized for being such a dickhead. Mmhmm. You gotta love the girl. And she doesn't just have good comebacks, but she is freaking brave and selfless. Seriously, I would do anything to have this girls personality. Such an amazing person... *sigh*

This book is f**king out-of-this-world (literally) awesome! I suggest you go borrow it, buy it or whatever right now and read it!!!! It will glue you in from the start and will not let you go till the end. (pause) Actually, it doesn't let you go because you'll need the next book ASAP. Eg. me right now, writing this review and needing the second book so badly. Arrrggg.

All in all, this book is amazing, so go ahead and get it. And I mean... now. ...more

I’d heard a lot about Obsidian and I was dying to read it. When I finally got my hands on it, I was practically salivating. And it didn’t fail me. But it didn’t completely satisfy me either.
Don’t get me wrong, it was great but I expected a BIT more. Nevertheless, it was an amazing start to what I’m guessing, will be an amazing series.
It was a bit slow and there wasn’t much action and the Arum didn’t seem very frightening to me, for some reason.

I think I’ve read this series so many times now and each time it brings me so much comfort. It has its issues of course but I’ll always have love and fondness for these books <3
5 stars to this series as a whole, I struggle to rate the books separately even though I’ve tried 😭
