Obsidian (Lux, #1) in The Wide Web of Friends in YA Books

I don't know why smokin' hot bad boys are so in right now, but who cares?!? Daemon is no exception and we love it, don't we girls?!? Jennifer Armentrout knew what she was doing when she picked this cover! What can we learn from this cover that will hint at what we are about to get into? Well obviously we assume it's meant to be Katy and Daemon (since we know that the story is about them, duh). Daemon looks strong and in control while Katy is clinging to him and looking away. This is pretty darn I don't know why smokin' hot bad boys are so in right now, but who cares?!? Daemon is no exception and we love it, don't we girls?!? Well obviously we assume it's meant to be Katy and Daemon (since we know that the story is about them, duh). Daemon looks strong and in control while Katy is clinging to him and looking away. This is pretty darn accurate in my opinion (also I've read the book so I know!) Daemon is super controlling, but only because he's lost so much already and he feels it's his responsibility to look out for everyone. Katy relies so heavily on Daemon now because her world has just been turned upside down, but she's hellbent on proving that she's not some useless human. With that being said, when you start this book Daemon is a total and complete douche canoe (Katy's words, not mine) and you're probably going to hate his guts, but keep going I promise it will be totally worth it!

Katy has just been thrown into this crazy world she never thought existed and she's freaking out a little bit that her neighbors are aliens. Justifiable! Not to mention Daemon is the most attractive jerk she's ever met in her life! Katy's mom decides to pack up their lives and move to West Virginia the summer before her senior year. Coming from living on the beaches of Florida her entire life, Katy isn't too thrilled about this move, but she transitions the best she can for her mother's sake. It doesn't take long for her to meet her teenage next door neighbors, Dee and Daemon. The 2 most beautiful people she's ever seen in her whole life! Dee is gorgeous with the perfect body and hair and bright green eyes, and Daemon, oh Daemon, he's tall and muscular and perfect and just dreamy also with bright green eyes because he and Dee are twins! How about that genetic makeup, huh? Oh and did I mention that the first time Katy meets Daemon he comes to the door shirtless!! When he opens the door what does Katy do? She just stands there awkwardly gaping at all of his manliness. Brilliant first impression! Anyway, Daemon is an insulting jerk from the moment he opens his mouth, and Katy pretty much hates him now, who could blame her? Even though Daemon is the last person she ever wants to be around, she and Dee become very close, very fast. And when you hang out with one twin all the time you are bound to have the occasional run in with the other twin. Little did she know what she just stumbled into with being around those two and how it's going to change her life forever. And with that, Katy's story begins!

This was my first alien book, and it was by complete accident! I didn't read any reviews before buying it because it was only like $2.99 on my Nook. The cover intrigued me so I bought it. That was a great decision because it was well worth it in my opinion. It was exciting, super witty, fast paced and I am pretty sure I read it one sitting because I needed to see what was going to happen with Katy and Daemon that badly! I love Katy so much. Probably because she is just like me and you. The book loving blogger who enjoys virtual reality almost as much as actual reality! She's a very well put together narrator though, unlike some other books I've read where the female lead is flighty and whiney and irrational! Not our Katy though, I thought she was very strong as a narrator. She was obviously indecisive about Daemon, but that's because he was so hard to figure out! And Daemon reminds me so much of Jace (Mortal Instruments) which is a very good thing indeed! Katy and Daemon have so much chemistry and tension that you can literally feel it! I guess I should also mention that while all of this crazy tension is happening Katy is discovering about good and bad aliens and how the government knows about all of this, but can't be trusted. Like I said, there is a lot going on in this book!

Overall it's a great story that keeps you interested from cover to cover. One that I definitely haven't read before, and I highly recommend it! Oh and I also loved the extra scenes Jennifer added that are in Daemon's POV, very nice touch! And if you loved this story you'll be pleased to know that there are 4 more installments in the Lux series currently available and another one on the way! Woohoo! ...more

Okay. So. Obsidian. This book was, as Katy would put it: "Oh sweet alien babies everywhere!" Fantastic. When I first picked up this book, I wasn't all that interested, to be honest. Dee was cute and very peppy. I knew something wasn't right about her right off the bat. No human is THAT peppy. Don't get me wrong: I love dee. I really do. I'm just Okay guys, I haven't really been able to write a review before now that encompasses the perfection in this book. Well, now I'm ready.

Okay. So. Obsidian. This book was, as Katy would put it: "Oh sweet alien babies everywhere!" Fantastic. When I first picked up this book, I wasn't all that interested, to be honest. Dee was cute and very peppy. I knew something wasn't right about her right off the bat. No human is THAT peppy. Don't get me wrong: I love dee. I really do. I'm just saying for me, always expecting the unexpected and impossible, knew she just wasn't a normal human. I really liked Kat's sense of humor right from the start. Very awesome. And then came the reason I at some point fell asleep on my book from reading so late: DAEMON PERFECTION BLACK. Well, the perfection part was just me but you know it's true. He, please excuse the language, is a douche canoe. (And yes I just used daemons curse word creativity. Get over it.) But he's still awesome. He's the kind of boy who you'd do Anything to be with. Bottle green eyes that you've never EVER seen the color of before on earth, (Hint, Hint) black hair that always mangers to look sexy even if he JUST woke up, his trusty pen, his smirk that would make most melt into a puddle, a sense of humor that you can't help but love, his overprotective attitude of his sister, alien super powers, yeah alien. Awesome right? Now are you drooling by now or-oh wait you're not? OH, it's because you're dead on the floor? Oh yeah. I get it. I really do. Okay, now on to my most favorite part of writing reviews: SPOILERS!!!

The type of alien that daemon and dee are a type of alien called a Luxen. They are bass icky beings of light in their true form. Opposite to their enemy, the arum, (Who can be killed by obsidian. Just thought you should know.) who are beings of darkness that dissolve into smoke, almost, I their true form. In their true form, they talk to you in your mind, like the Luxen. But, instead of regular, if not more velvety sounding voices, the arum voices inside your head sound like a snake. Like thisssss they only sssssay the ssssnake sssssound on the letter ssssss. Ugh. Arum. *Shudders* there are only a few-a cluster, if you will-of Luxen in West Virginia, well, in the world actually, but the ones in W.V. Are: Daemon, Dee, Adam, Matthew, and Andrew.
They aren't to happy about Katy knowing who they are. So anyways, if you're reading the spoilers, then you've either read the book, or you're stupid, but anyways, I'm gonna assume it's just the people who have already read the book. This book had a lot of humor in it, and I really loved that Katy, our heroine, wasn't a complete damsel in distress. Kitten got bite! When Daemon and Katy 1st meet, you instantly know they're going to be together. With that being said, I REALLY loved that there was t all this love triangle crap in the story, because, frankly, I'm really over all that. 150 love triangles is a little much, even for me. I also really loved the Luxen and the idea of them. I LOVE The Host, so I was willing to try the alien angle, and I'm really glad I did. It wasn't all green ballon heads and stuff, no it was light. Just simple, unearthly light. And, in The Host's case, little glow worm thingies. I bought the rest of the series, (Even origin. YAY!! :D) and I'm working on getting this one. I suggest you go and tackle whoever is grabbing the last copy of this book on the shelve, grab it, and run, because its just that freakin awesome. As for me, imma be chillin with my Luxen Buds.

I really liked this book. It had a great story and cool characters. Katy was so intelligent, and brave and she loved reading so I liked her, she kind of reminded me of my best friend. I LOVED Dee, I wish I was so close with my sister as she was with Daemon.
Aaahh... Daemon, dreamy but kind of a jerk sometimes. I know he had his reasons but dude, you must know when to stop!!
I had a personal issue with his relationship with Katy... I understood why she got frustrated when he changed his attitude to ...more

I’d heard a lot about Obsidian and I was dying to read it. When I finally got my hands on it, I was practically salivating. And it didn’t fail me. But it didn’t completely satisfy me either.
Don’t get me wrong, it was great but I expected a BIT more. Nevertheless, it was an amazing start to what I’m guessing, will be an amazing series.
It was a bit slow and there wasn’t much action and the Arum didn’t seem very frightening to me, for some reason.

rereading my comfort book series, January 2025🤍
I think I’ve read this series so many times now and each time it brings me so much comfort. It has its issues of course but I’ll always have love and fondness for these books <3
5 stars to this series as a whole, I struggle to rate the books separately even though I’ve tried 😭
