Well written typical teenage story. Without the overtly slang-ey dialog present in some YA books, I found Vampire Academy more mature and really liked it because of that particular aspect. One thing Richelle Mead is fantastic at is when Rose is transported into Lissa's mind, the reader is right there along side her to the point of becoming Rose herself. Reading these scenes myself I could not tell that Lissa was the one experiencing these things--and not Rose.

This is a completely new outlook on what a world with vampires would be. I have read a couple of other books with vampires and none have taken this take on what it may be like. Of course there are some similarities with the way they conduct themselves or they just wouldn't seem like they were vampires.
