When I started this book I knew I was going to like it. It's a southern gothic, dark fantasy fiction which is hauntingly beautiful. Writing style is good. It's a male POV book. Lena and Ethan's character is nicely written but I loved the side characters too like Macon Ravenwood, Amma, Mariam, Ridley and Link. If you're fan of L.J Smith's books then this is the one for you. As soon as I begin to read this book I have already fallen in love with it and can't wait to keep reading it. I was like

How can this be so good?

I rattled through the book not able to put it back down. I loved to be able to read a book full of casters and other creatures of the night. It changes the way that I will now think of magic folk showing a complete new outlook on this type of world.
