You know it's a good book when you look up at the clock an it's four in the morning and you could careless that you are going to look like a hot mess due to lack of sleep.

A Different Blue was the one book by Amy Harmon that I bought first, but sadly it was the last of the books of hers that I read. I am not sure exactly what made me put this one off for so long. But after scrolling through hundreds of books and not being able to make a decision, I figured I would finally read this. But after scrolling through hundreds of books and not being able to make a decision, I figured I would finally read this. I knew I was not going to be disappointed.

Blue Echohawk's story isn't an easy one to tell, mostly because she has no idea as to how her story actually began. Abandoned by her mother, raised by a stranger and ultimately left to live with a woman that she didn't know. Blue's life hasn't been easy and she made sure that she never made it easy on those around her to ever get close. But all that begins to change when she meets Mr. Wilson. The teacher that shows her that she can write her own story. Her beginning doesn't have to dictate her ending.

A Different Blue was a story of one girl's journey of self discovery. It was a love story. But not just a story of her falling in love with a man that showed her that she had worth, something to love - but love story that showed her that she was worthy of loving herself. Blue ensured that she kept everyone at a distance. It was better this way, after all how does a girl who doesn't know who she is, let anyone really get to know her? As the months of her senior year dwindle away a close bond is formed with her history teacher, a man that blurs the line as he offers her a helping hand and friendship. A friendship that blossoms into a love story, but it isn't just about these two falling in love - that was just the backdrop of the beauty that was this story.

As the story progresses, Blue finds out just where she came from, who she was and how she came to be the girl she was today.

Amy Harmon's ability to tell a story is unmatched. There is a pure beauty in her writing and the meaning behind her stories always leave you feeling just a little bit lighter than you did before you started. Although A Different Blue is not my favorite of her books, that honor goes to The Laws of Moses, it was no less a touching story. Part of me wanted to get a little bit more of Blue & Wilson after the reveal came. I wanted to experience their connection at a new level - not so much in a way that turned this into more of a NA read from a YA type story - but something that moved me. Their connection on an emotional level was moving and I wanted that connection to take on a new direction with a more physical level. Something that would have showcased a deeper love in a way that was just a little different than the one we got a chance to see.

As much as I love to get lost in a book, there is something about a book that makes you reflect on your own life - your own decisions that just lends so much more to the experience. This is a story that has the ability to touch you, one that can shift the way you look at your own life and what road you want to take. There is no doubt about this author's ability to tell a great story, to create characters that instantly steal a piece of your heart. Blue was no different. She wasn't conventional, but she was so lovable. It is impossible to read one of her books without falling in love with every character, to become so connected and invested in their outcome.

I was a mess when Blue had to make one of those hard decisions, a moment where she decided what direction her story was going to go. I knew that she was making the right choice, but at the same time, it broke my heart that she had to even make that choice. Given the theme of this book I expected to be caught up in my emotions, but it was really just that moment that tore my heart apart. It was at that moment that I realized that no matter what happened in her life, I needed her to get a different ending. I needed her story to be a happily ever after, because she had already suffered enough.

Now, as for our Mr. Darcy Wilson. I think he might be my favorite male character of Amy's thus far. He was a little quirky, certainly not perfect - but he was such a presence that I found myself completely captivated by him.

As an avid reader, I read to escape the stresses of life. Sometimes I need a book that just gives me a few hours of peace, a chance to erase the reality of things. But in reality, the love of reading is for moments like these. The way a story has a way of making you feel things - to want to change things. A moment in time when everything seems possible. Amy Harmon is one of those authors who create characters that come to life. You'll speak of them to your friends as if they are real people, not just characters scribbled onto pages and give life through a chain of words. what was missing? For me a hot scene would have put this in the five star category.

Loved Mr. Darcy and Blue. She was fierce. Finally a strong character. Really enjoyed it!

She did it again. A Different Blue was a story that was so interconnected and woven so intricately and told so beautifully. The characters were tender, gentle and sentimental. A mellow and sometimes frustrating love story told with passion and love. It started a little slow for me with lots of historical stories but eventually wrapped me completely. I just wished for a epilogue.....just a little bit more. Well done again. I will definitely read more from her.
