What Members Thought
Is "Our Man in Havana" an espionage thriller, a satire, or what? I'd always assumed it was a thriller, mostly due my previous readings of Graham Greene's work, but I have to admit I'd say it's one of the better satires I've seen. I was grinning ear-to-ear throughout.

I quite liked this. It's refreshing to read a suspense novel that takes itself less seriously than many do, and though I didn't find Our Man in Havana as compelling as Le Carré at his best, the overt sexism that annoys me about Le Carré's writing of women is less obvious here, although the "wife who left" archetype is still omnipresent.

Wonderful stuff. A delicious satire based on Greene's own time working in the intelligence community, the action is both ridiculous and plausible. Strangely controversial because of its satirical nature, for me this is essential reading for espionage fans.
