If you find the heavily detailed post-war political details that some characters display in the first half of this novel a bit too much (my reason for the one star reduction,) then try to concentrate on the high quality, and superbly intelligent, writing. That's a core skill increasingly lost in the hum-drum 'safe' celeb led publishing world of today. Arguably the one and only essential skill that a writer must have... to write well!
