This is a more serious book than any of the later books in the series (at least, of the ones I've read). Daniel Silva is more evidently on a soapbox, linking more of the story's fiction to his version of history and reality. Unfortunately, this reminds me of efforts such as The Da Vinci Code in which the author professes that the fiction is based on facts --- but which facts, and whose interpretation of facts? The Gabriel Allon series is always good, but I prefer the books with the back story of WWII than the books dealing with the modern day (but centuries old) Israeli-Palestinian problems. If I’m going to root for an assassin to succeed, I want it to be clear cut good and evil.

First half was slow but necessary and the second half was fast and brutal, average of the two halves is 3 of 5.

the latest in the Gabriel Allon series. a bit deeper and personal than the previous books, this novel delves more into the personal life and history of Allon.
