As an active consumer of spy novels, I couldn't wait to get my hands on The Good Spy. It's always interesting to me to see how the real world that I'm not privy to matches up with what a fiction writer serves up. In this case, I learned quite a bit, particularly in how the major players in the Middle East played with one another in that part of the world. Brilliant and sad biography of a hero
Kai Bird has written brilliant, well researched given the limitations and sad book about the CIA officer Robert Ames. Mr Ames was a true hero and expert on the Middle East. He knew Arabic and Middle Eastern culture as well as Israeli culture. Must read. .
