A must-read for any follower of the thriller genre. 'Amok' is very, very, good. A ripping yarn of the 'old school'--simple elements and no superfluous adornments. A plantation house; a surrounding jungle. Its a far-off locale; but otherwise this is how people used to live. Lamps; window-shades; wood. Darkness outside. Just the essentials.
