All spy fiction is really an extended metaphor for the office. No character captures that better than Bernard Samson, a middle-ranking intelligence executive, who can’t trust anyone. One of the great pieces of Cold War espionage fiction this is the first i na trilogy of trilogies about the ultimate in sleeper agents.

Anyone know of a good feminist review of this series? The Fiona Samson character is one of the first great women fictional spies and this utterly compelling character deserves mroe attention.

Oh, and Deighton's skills at dialogue and creating liveable, believable characters should be emulated by way mroe authors, especially in thriller-land.
