This was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I loved the writing, the setting, and the overall atmosphere but the plot was not the tightest and at times I wondered how it would all come together in the end. I listened to the audio version which was read by Michael Jayston who did an excellent job.

**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** This book was very well written, much like its predecessor Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The plot was very intricate and involved, with many of the same characters returning from the first novel. However, the ending left something to be desired. It was rather predictable and it didn't make the tie in back to Karla, which was the impetus behind the whole plot in the first place. Rereading this I'd have to agree with jess, its a weak LeCarre novel and doesn't have the resonance for me that Tinker, Tailor and Simley's People has.
