The best way to experience this novel is to have it read aloud. Jake G is a narrator even Fitz would have approved of.

Best American novel of the twentieth century, easy. The Fitzgerald oeuvre is slim; this is his crowning achievement. It has everything: money, lust, ambition, death, West vs. East, romance. Never bogged down by its scope, it's above all a good, almost inevitable, story. It is THE story. When I read it as a high schooler, it didn't move me the way it does now. I remember reading this during 11th grade for the American Character class, which was the combination of history and English classes that were held back-to-back. This was one of the books we were compelled to read at the time. I remember watching the movie with Robert Redford in 2010 after returning home from my mission. I can say that I'm not a big fan of it, but oh well!

I didn't finish going through it this time, but I was able to catch onto the cultural themes for the story. This story occurs
