I'm a fan of JRR Tolkien's books. This is a satisfying conclusion to TLoTR trilogy. But I must encourage readers to read the appendices. Lots of information included in the movies is drawn from this information.

The Return of the King pulls all the threads still running from the previous volume and brings them together, first in the battle for Gondor and then the battle outside the Black Gates of Mordor.
It's always hard when you come to the end of such a long, involved story - I find there's always a feeling of dissatisfaction that the book has finished. This is Tolkien at the top of his game. With The Return of the King, Tolkien, using lessons learned when writing the first two-thirds of the tale no doubt, ingeniously uses his unique characters, unique geography, and unique story structure to create many incredibly powerful moments, one after another, leaving the reader breathless by the end. It's a great ride.
