This has always been one of my favorite books and along with The Hobbit is one of the books that introduced me to the wonderful world of fantasy writing. Tolkien's world is immersive and his descriptions of the history of Middle Earth are always interesting. I am on somewhere around my 25th reading of this book and still find something new every time I read it.

I am sixty one now and I first read 'The Lord of the Rings' when I was sixteen in 1968. No other book before it revealed to me what reading what I consider to be a good book can do.
