A very lovely and well-written book about a sad period in American history. I would have loved to have learned more about what the American Japanese were thinking and feeling about the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Unfortunately, mention of these events was completely left out. The Japanese "just surrendered" and everyone lived happily ever after. I know this is fiction, but one sentence would have been enough.

One of the best books I've read. I had no idea of how many Japanese people were interned and how it must have just ruined lives and families, so sad.

i'd actually give this a 3.5 star. henry and keiko were sweet and likeable. i thought the familial relationships were believable and well told. the story was educational, and very sad - (the internment of japanese-americans during WWII.)
