A touching fantasy that hits a high note
I simply loved this story. The romance between Elyne and Derron was both touching and heart-warming (and well deserved). The world Miles built is engaging, and beckons you in. Once there, I promise you won't want to leave. Since the prologue introduces Kieran, and his reasons seem plausible, I thought he was the hero, despite his evil act. The few scenes with Kieran in the rest of the book seemed the most lively. Queen Maeve is so unsympathetic, I couldn’t blame Kieran for wanting to destroy her. Her treatment of Elyne is unsupportable and Derron’s reasons for helping Elyne are poorly explained, both to the reader and to Elyne.
