Yep, this one is by far my favorite of the series so far! I love seeing Vic exploring what his talents can really do. I’m constantly surprised by how layered and complicated things are getting. I mean almost being able to trust Dreyfuss????? Crazy! Sure, there’s a little less Vic and Jacob sexy time in this one, but the mystery was more complex and with Lisa’s life hanging in the balance I was hooked. Lots of paranormal shenanigans going on and it had me enraptured from minute one.

Lots of paranormal shenanigans going on and it had me enraptured from minute one.

Life is continuing as normal for Vic and Jacob, or at least as normal as things get for a duo of PsyCops. Vic’s still distrustful of all things FPMP, but when his best friend goes missing from the campus of PsyTrain accepting their help, whatever strings may be attached seems like the only option. The biggest problem for Vic and Jacob is how to utilize Vic’s talents. How do you find a ghost to talk to in a building that’s been cleansed to train a multitude of Psy’s?

This was oh so yummy for me! I was so excited to see Vic’s powers growing and his control becoming more locked down. This was the first time too where we really get to see Vic and Jacob working together instead of off on separate cases. They really worked as a team here and it showed the strengthening bonds of their relationship. Even Vic’s paranoia over not being “athletic” was cute. I love Vic’s inner voice. It’s as twisty and all over the place as he is and keeps you as guessing as the reader. All of his doubts and insecurities show, but so does his strength of character and his just plain awesomeness!

I was more than a little nervous at Lisa’s disappearance as well quite frankly I adore her. She’s got such a unique talent and one very easily exploited. I’ve liked watching her strength grow from book to book and new Vic was going to have to fly in and save the day. There was no way he was going to let her be lost to the unknown. Her parts in solving this mystery were great. I liked that even without being around she was still there.

Wow…I kinda can’t hate Dreyfuss anymore. He showed up big for this one and managed to allow Vic to get a little more insight into who he is and just why he’s in the position he’s in. Not fully on board to trust the little monster yet, but he’s certainly got my attention now that we know more about him. Of course his help comes with strings, but I’m curious to see how tightly those strings are going to bind Vic.

Oh boy Jacob, you are such the big stalwart man for Vic. I love it! But the best part, the best part was seeing your insecurities come through even if you don’t know that you revealed any of that part of yourself. I enjoyed the parts of this story that took things away from the incredible sexual chemistry between these two and really let us see the other side. I really felt like I got how much Jacob really loves Vic in this story. His protection built through his love of his man is just so powerful and strong. This was just lovely.

I was left with one really big question at the end of all this though…I really enjoyed the mystery elements, I liked how complicated everything was getting in the spirit realm and with the astral plane. Such cool new abilities for Vic to explore and handle. He’s clearly more powerful than even he thinks he is. But, and maybe it was intentional, I was left wondering with one little piece of things. Altogether my favorite of the series because all of the elements blended so well together; the romance, the paranormal, and the mystery. I was hooked from the beginning and can’t wait to read more of Vic and Jacob’s adventures now that Jacob’s taking a walk on the wild side. ;)

It's fairly uncommon for a series to get stronger as it progresses. Usually, the first book is fantastic and it gets worse as it continues.

So it's with surprised pleasure that I have to say that this series just gets better as it goes along. Really, book 5 and 6 are the best in an already excellent series. I'm very impressed with how much work and effort JCP has put into world building. The whole ghost plot line is very well thought out and developed, with a high level of attention to detail. I hate how he's turned on by Crash. Hate it. It feels like he's tempted to cheat even though Jordan says she doesn't see Crash as a threat to Jacob and Vic's relationship.

Vic can be so funny:

I just can't figure out this room they're in. Two rooms were identical, small with one twin bed. They took the allegedly identical rooms directly above them. Somehow in one they fit two full sized beds, a dresser, and a huge crate big enough to fit (view spoiler). My bedroom is decent sized and I wouldn't be able to fit two full sized beds and a huge crate in it and a dresser blocking the window.

The layout of the room doesn't make sense. At one point they were sandwiched between the two beds and the crate and dresser which is against the window. But they have to climb past the crate to go to the bathroom after coming in the door. Then there's a three foot aisle in the middle of the room which is on the other side of the crate from the door and the bed had to be climbed over to get to it. Where the heck is the bathroom.

Wouldn't understand the other astral person's name because the right side (creative side) doesn't work but she recognized Lisa's name?

They wouldn't just happen to have an Astral Projection 101 class starting that very day. Very funny scene though, especially from my perspective as being from Seattle, land of the hippies.

Vic is much nicer and more compassionate in this one. Last book I couldn't understand what Jacob saw in him. I'm still a little unclear but at least I can see it being possible. He said "I love you" to Jake this time and felt the words were inadequate to his feelings. At another point, Jake asks:

"Are you happy?"
"Yeah." The need to kiss him flooded over me, because he shouldn’t have needed to ask me that. He should have known, and if he couldn’t tell that he was everything to me, it was my fault, not his."
That was really sweet. I needed to hear him say that because he didn't in the last book.

He only brought two pairs of pants but they had two heavy checked bags, a suit bag and two cartons? What the hell did they bring?

You can get jet lag with any time zone change. Two hours is significant. There are people who have trouble adjusting to Daylight Savings which is only an hour.

Great plot. Had kept me guessing and was quite creepy in parts. I didn't figure out anything more than a sentence or two before the MCs if that. Except for Dreyfus's talent. I figured that out earlier.

Always ends on a frickin' cliffhanger. ARGH!!

This was my FAVORITE of the series. I even considered writing a really long review. And I might. If I were more athletic. Worth every hour of lost sleep last night. Hilarious. I can't wait for more. Such wonderfully, flawed and floundering characters...
