Oh Victor, Victor, Victor you poor dear! It’s fun to finally get to see a little bit of the nastiness that was Camp Hell. Of course I love Vic’s inner voice and seeing things through his eyes. He’s such a twisty mess of things. Jacob is so patient dealing with all of Vic’s drama without freaking out, but yet prodding him to open up more. Really enjoyed this story yet again.

Vic world as he knew it has been spun around, ok so his world was always a little bit crazy, but now he’s aware of just how Oh Victor, Victor, Victor you poor dear! Vic world as he knew it has been spun around, ok so his world was always a little bit crazy, but now he’s aware of just how under the microscope he is. His paranoia is going off the chart as it seems everyone is out to get him. His own existence is completely off the grid as far as the internet is concerned as is the existence of Heliotrope Station where he trained. Vic’s determined to get to the bottom of what happened to Camp Hell and himself, even if that means digging around in his own head and attempting to remember all he’s pushed away.

I am so happy Vic has finally started to reach out to Jacob again. I hated seeing the distance growing between these two. Vic’s anti-social nature doesn’t help matters, but as everything gets more murky it’s nice to see him finally letting Jacob in a bit. I really felt these two getting closer as this story went along and it’s not just about Vic’s head space on his own. There are so many nuances to this relationship, they’re still figuring each other out and what works for them. Of course their sexual chemistry is hot! These two burn up the sheets together…and other places. ;)

All the side characters in this story are fantastic. I love Crash and Lisa!!! Both Vic and Jacob’s partners on the force are interesting and a great support system. I enjoying seeing their little circle of trust grow. I even like our twisty bad guys. Those that we’re not sure we can trust and those that we’re positive we can’t. Learning more and more about this world just makes me crave more. The bits and pieces we’ve gotten that fill in small blanks just leave more to be explored.

There are so many layers to this story. Every time one piece gets pulled back there’s just more to be discovered underneath. I liked that with this story the focus was on Vic’s own investigation into his past and Camp Hell, but we didn’t cut out his day to day investigation either. There wasn’t some over arching bad guy gunning for Vic on his regular case. It was a fascinating mystery that came with a big end all blow out bang. I really enjoyed both sides of this story. And on top of that Jacob just gets more interesting. (view spoiler)

Wow the sexual chemistry in this story is off the chart. It’s intense and explosive. Yet I am constantly teased with Crash. I mean Vic’s thoughts certainly aren’t tame, but yet it’s clear he just loves Jacob so much. Crash is just delicious I get the appeal. His being Jacob’s ex just adds to the sexy complicated craziness.

Finally I feel like Vic is starting to get a less drug crazed handle on his own talents. The things he’s remembering help him figure out just what he really can handle. The exorcism’s playing a part in the story just made my day! I have been waiting for Vic to figure out how to make some of the ghosts go away. :D

I love this series whole great big bunches and I will be back for more. Can’t wait to find out what happens in the next installment as more pieces are revealed.

It's funny, JCP says she didn't know who was reporting to the FPMP until 2/3 of the way through the book, but I was convinced that I knew who it was long before that, and I was right. Maybe, as in the previous book, I'm just too jaded.

I love learning more about Vic's time at Camp Hell, and even more about his abilities, and their growth as he learns more. One of the stronger books in the series, despite Vic again being a little more naive than his experience might dictate. At this point, I'm exp ...more

Vic is <3. No wonder Jacob is head over heels for him.

The thing I've enjoyed most about these books is the growing and deepening relationship between Vic and Jacob and watching Vic come into himself after all the trauma he's been through. He's whip smart and knows how to protect himself, but he's so much more than that, too.

These have also been a bit of a master-class on writing a series based around one couple. ...more
