Holy crap! I don't know what I was expecting when I went into this book, but it certainly wasn't this. I LOVED this book. I'd have been avoiding it for every. It'd been recommended to me a number of times, but I just never got around to adding it to my to read list. Stupid, stupid Shelby! This was fantastic. I loved the complexities of the werewolf vs shifter dynamic. I was enthralled by the ways these two struggled against their natures in order to find a perfect balance together.

Colton Decarie and Killian Frost are natural enemies. Colton's purpose in life as a shifter is to slay the werewolves and free those souls they trap with their kills. Killian is a werewolf, but he abides by the peace compact brokered between the species and has never participated in a hunt thus has no captured souls to his past. Colton though is tired of the game his council sends him on. They've used those he loves against him and all he wants now is out. Death seems to be the only option, but suicide is not honorable. For all he's done he deserves an honorable death. Asking a werewolf to kill him in a way where no blame would fall shouldn't be that difficult, but Killian's price certainly is.

This book was hot and twisty and oh so awesome from the first page. I loved how dark Killian's mind was but yet a thread of light always spun through his core. He was better than his instincts and it's only through his understanding of the dark that he can really be the truth to the lost feeling that Colton is dealing with. Colton may be the hand of his people, but it's corrupting the good soul underneath. He needed away to pay penance and let it all go. Killian is never the answer he expected, but is completely the one that he needs.

I absolutely adored these two together. They're balance of good and evil, light and dark, is so mixed between the two despite the way their respective people like to think of things. I was so enraptured in the emotional by play between these two. LOVED IT!

I wish this book had gone on and on. The solution they came up with was of course the way things had to go to bring balance to all again. It was fitting and I handled flawlessly. My only complaint with this book at all is that it isn't a series!!! I want more in this world. There are other characters I'd love to see explored more. Hello Prince of Thorns...besides I'd just love to see more of these two as their respective cultures figure out exactly what it means for them to be together and how that effects their preconceived notions about what it means to be a werewolf or shifter. Please please please please please give me more!!! ...more
