Mi-ja and Young-sook are as close as sisters growing up on the Korean island of Jeju, controlled by the Japanese prior to WW2. They are from two very different backgrounds, Mi-ja is the daughter of a collaborator, while Young-sook's family has been on the island for generations. Haenyeo are what they want to become, women free-divers that support their families and rule the island.
