I personally could relate to this book somewhat because I've been around girls unsatisfied with their skin color as well. Melika was a young girl who didn't like her outside shell. I found this book to be one of the greatest books ever written because I think a good book is one that you can relate to the most. This book can be relatable for many young girls across America, even the ones that are not of the Black race. ...more

I truly love this book. It was heartbreaking, and heartwarming that the same time. I felt that it related to many people life's today. This book made me highly emotional because I could relate to this story so much. Maleeka the protagonist defines every girl. She was highly insecure about everything. Especially at her age and was influenced under a great amount of peer pressure. When she over came the influence of everyone it made me think twice about my insecurities as a female. ...more
