This novel is a classic. It is about four sisters who go through many hardships in their lives. There is love, war, and family involved in all of the things that happen to the four young women. The four sister go throught several life experiences. Unfortunately, they soon drift apart from each other to cope with the pains of what goes on within the family. People can truly learn a lot about life from this book. It is a very detailed novel, and it focuses on the specifics of setting.

A must read book. There is so much to appreciate in the world, kind of like Thoreau.

i wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. it is very difficult to read and it took me probably four months to read half of the book. I like books so i was very surprised that this one did not catch my attention at all. it is about these sister whose family don't have that much money and Christmas is coming around. Some people like this book but I dont.
