Fredrick Douglas's story is amazing and tragic. I learned so much from just reading a couple of pages. He was so brilliant and smart. He went through so much horrors. The use of imagery,similes, metaphors added so much to the story. I felt as if I were watching these tragedies. Douglas's story touched me. He never gave up at all even going through so much. He went and fought for his freedom. He fights for his peoples freedom as well later as an abolitionist. I really really enjoyed reading this ...more

This descriptive narrative offered an excellent male perspective from a slave. Frederick Douglass provided insight on the relationship between a master and his slave. The paradoxical use of the Bible is especially highlighted in this narrative during the many accounts of abuse and oppression from slave owners. The story of his escape from bondage is very sincere, even the reader can connect to the excitement he felt as a free man. I would recommend this recount to someone who is interested in sl ...more
