In the book “Oedipus the King (Oedipus Rex)” by Sophocles is a book that I found intersting because how could son marry his mother. What kind of a rule is that he have to marry his mother, after his father died. Also, on the other hand I feel miserable for Oedipus because when he was small his parents were tring to kill him and I think that’s why he were tring to take revange by killing his father and marrying his mother. I want to discribe Oedipus by writing a poem. so, this is my poem!

Know this his parents sent him away with a shepherd to have him killed in the mountains. Instend the shepherd gave him to a man who took him to another kingdom. After growing up in his new home, Oedipus finds out about his prophecy. Him thinking that the king and queen of his new home were his real parents,

Oedipus Rex is one of those awkward tragedies. The first time I read it I was lost. It’s a Greek mythology. This text includes extemporaneous factors. The main character Oedipus was ruler of Thebes. The weird thing about him was his history. The fact that he killed his own father on a road and slept with his mother is just disturbing. Oedipus is a tragic hero because he faced riskful challenges to complete or help someone and at the end he dies. Oedipus Rex consists much of cathartic outcomes. W

From the book, I can see that all the people of Thebes were all Apollo’s followers. They believed in everything Apollo said. When they had problem, they went to Apollo’s oracle asked for the advice, they believed that Apollo could save them. I think the tragedy of Oedipus was as a result of Laius’s blindly believed in God. It was Laius’s fault because it was he who made all the mass. First when the priest told him that he would die at the hand of his own son, Laius pierced Oedipus’s ankles and l

Oedipus Rex by Sophocles is a play about a man that was fated to live a tragic life. He was abandoned at birth because of something some oracles had said. He lived a life in which he did not know the truth; he was ignorant to some point. He ends up learning about who he really is and for him it all ends up really tragically; this play includes the theme of tragic hero. I would recommend this play to anyone whom likes to read tragedies, someone whom likes tragic heroes. The problem I had with thi

It's a confusing book, but it has a lot of irony. The way of the story is a mysttery. At first when i started reading it, it reminded me of "Heart Of Darkness", because i had no clue what was going on. But as i read the margin notes in the book, it really helped me understand it better. It's a ok book.
Well over all this book was really confusing at the beginning but the notes on the side really helped. At first I didn’t know what was going on, but after a few pages I understood somewhat of wha ...more

I really did not like this play. It was confusing, the vocabulary and the plot. Even though it was a very thorough plot idea, too many people were connected with each other, confusing the reader. I feel that if i would have read a simpler version of it I may have liked it better because I wouldn't have been as confused.

This is the first non-Shakespeare-written play I read... It is not very long, and it's a tragedy, but I really like it. The language was not too hard to read and I really like how he used the way the characters speak to modify the characteristic. I guess that is something that I have to learn for my fiction writing.

From this story I learned that no matter what if something is destined to be it will happen. No matter how hard one can try to change their fate it will still happen. I also learned that it's important to remain sane in certain situations.

This tragic play was breathtaking..... The plot was greatly ironic, which kept me as a reader on the edge, waiting for the truth to spill at last!!.. In my opinion, even though Oedipus was the one convicted of bad deeds, he remained a strong character with a sense of responsibility and acknowledgment of his actions. The play's tragic hero wasn't afraid to admit his wrong doing, and he was willing to take upon worst punishment. Oedipus was portrayed not as a murderer, but as a struggler, whose pa

I couldn't find the edition I borrowed in goodreads. Therefore, everything I am going to write down now, doesn't describe this edition.
The language was not easy to understand, but overall ideas weren't hard to get. Moreover, the plots weren't clear. However, it is really a good book. I don't like tragedy, but I like Oedipus' characteristic. He didn't give up his life because of all the hardships he had experienced.
Life treats people fairly. No one is happy forever. ...more

Pobresito, Oedipus! An enigma wrapped in a paradox of a riddle that only Sphinxes and purple dinosaurs could ever lay down. Ohhhh, woe is HE! Does he ever have Mommy Issues! Every time I read it, I wonder, will Jocasta save them all by doing the right thing? I mean, what ever happened to 'wait-and-see' with parents? I've heard of Tough Love, but did anyone ever simply think, 'Hey, he's a-pposed to kill us, but what if we just talk to him?'

My favorite quote well at least from mid-beginning
Would any mortal choose a troubled reign Of terrors rather than secure repose, If the same power were given him? As for me, I have no natural craving for the name Of king, preferring to do kingly deeds, And so thinks every sober-minded man. -Creon from Oedipus Rex Sophocles
