For a book that is so deeply rooted in existential angst and questioning your purpose in life, this is so lovely! This is the book equivalent of a walk in the woods followed by a mug of something hot and a chat with your best friends by the fire. The dedication reads "for anybody who could use a break" and Becky Chambers, I felt that on a primal level.

Reading this made me go make some tea, and return with mug in hand. I do encourage this as part of the process.
I was reminded as I read of the talos principle II, where sapient robots discuss (during puzzles) how to handle navigating nature after the collapse of humanity. What is the right thing to do? Can they create new structures? Can they avoid the mistakes of the past? A game I recommend.
This is hopeful solarpunk, with some vague hand waving of a world as the key conflicts are in the protag ...more
