I had high expectations for this book, the hype around it was so damn high. And I gotta say it didn't dissapoint. I read it more or less in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it.

Serpent & Dove is the typical YA fantasy book, with an enemies to lovers storyline at its center. We have a world with witches on the one hand (they think God is a woman, good for them) and human witchhunters on the other. The witchhunters (Chasseurs) thin

I had high expectations for this book, the hype around it was so damn high. And I gotta say it didn't dissapoint. I read it more or less in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it.

Serpent & Dove is the typical YA fantasy book, with an enemies to lovers storyline at its center. We have a world with witches on the one hand (they think God is a woman, good for them) and human witchhunters on the other. The witchhunters (Chasseurs) think witches are pure evil and they have to wiped from this earth. One of them is Reid. Said witchhunter meets Louise Le Blanc, short Lou, in unlikely circumstances, and they are forced to marry. And people - I lived for this fake marriage trope okey. Lou, who's running from her mother (spoiler: worst mother in the world), and takes the advantage out of this situation.

Lou is a brilliant female main character. I fell in love with her instantly. She's brave and witted, sassy, funny and so relatable.

"That was tuna. I have a second stomach for dessert."

When she cut her own arm open, and dropped the blood on the bedsheets, so people would think ther marriage was consummated? Iconic. I LOVED the way she made Reid uncomfortable all the time. He kept blushing lmao, take a shot everytime that's mentioned. When they talked about smut scenes in books, I couldn't stop laughing. Their dynamic can be compared to Nina/Matthias from SoC. I can't believe I would love an enemies to lovers trope that much, but here we are. They have so much chemistry and the built up of their relationship was so well done. They really get to know each other before anything happens (they literally went on a date and asked each other questions, like their favourite color :D). Lou is constantly trying to tear down Reid's prejudice towards witches.

"Every aspect of Reid was precise, certain, every color in its proper place. Undiluted by indecision, he saw the world in black and white, suffering none of the messy, charcoal colors in between. The colors of ash and smoke. Of fear and doubt. The colors of me."

That rooftop scene lmao, the author certainly was determined to cross some YA lines here. Good for her, it's time for a change anyway. There was also a loot of swearing in the book. Okey back to the couple. Of course in the end, Reid realizes, that Lou is a witch. Thanks for that angst, it hurts me, but I also live for it. That he would overcome his prejudice and accept her the way she is was predictable, but I still loved it.

"I loved her. Despite everything. Despite the lies, the betrayal, the hurt. Despite the Archbishop and Morgane le Blanc. Despite my own brothers. I don't know if she returned that love, and I didn't care. If she was destined to burn in Hell, I would burn with her."

The plottwist regarding his character in the end...I didn't see that coming but HELL YEAH.

The side characters: I adored Coco, she is the friend everyone needs. Jean Luc on the other hand. Honestly Reid you should have ditched his ass. Ansel is the cutest though okey!! The way he supported Lou, knowing what she was, cutie. He's such a puppy. And well Beau. I love you forever for that scene in the end okey.

A fantastic read. Exactly the type of book I needed, in year where I don't get any new Sarah J. Maas content. Give me book two ASAP.

“Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.”

I loved this book. Of course I loved it. It's a great enemies to lovers story that unfolds slowly over the book, after our two protagonists, a witch and a witch hunter, are thrust together in a marriage of convenience.

I loved Lou and Reid's characters, but I absolutely adored the side cast of characters too! Ansel I would protect with my life. Coco is so damn loyal and loving. I won't get much into the others, as they would be definite spoilers with ho ...more
