I admit I wanted to read the book after all the Oscar fuss surrounding the adaptation and was pleasantly surprised to find this is anything but feel-good rom-com material ( which I never watch or read). But I'll be interested to see what's been done with the screenplay of what is essentially a book about a man ( and woman) with serious mental health issues!

If I had high expectations about this one it surely surpassed them!
It has a little less sugar than the movie, and Pat's journey is more about accepting that life is not a movie and bad things happen, but the more depressing "truths" really make the book an extraordinary read. First of all it explains a lot, for example why Tiffany found closure for her husband's death by sleeping with every man she could get her eyes on (there's actually a meaningful reason for it).

So over all I adored this book, I couldn't put it down once I started reading it because it had a refreshing change in dialogue and in theme compared to a lot of books turn into movies. I was astonished at how easily entertaining this book was, and me not being that big of an angles fan didn't feel to overwhelmed by the sports aspect, the actual feeling in this book was nice too, these awkward characters of pat and Tiffany and the outcome of miss Nikki, how the climactic truth was thrown into yo

A quirky, innovative read, written with heart and humour and a touch of irony. You feel for Pat and you understand his emotions and take them to heart, although you are, at the same time, genuinely annoyed and frustrated with him at the way he shies away from the truth and his memories, and the way he (mis-)places his ex-wife on a piedestal while he himself crumbles in the dust. It is a story of love and finding oneself and one's grip on reality in a world that is threatening to spin out of cont

It has taken me awhile to write this review since I wanted some time to be able to sit down and put my thoughts into words. This story is about a guy named Pat. The story takes place the day he gets out of "the bad place", which is clearly a mental hospital. He is obsessed with reuniting with his wife, Nikki, and ending "apart time". The problem is that Pat thinks it has been just a couple months and ignores everything that points to the fact that he's bee ...more

A very charming yet heavy story. Filled with football enthusiasts, delusional relationships and heart-piercing truths about the irony involved in incidents in life. The character's search for silver linings is inspiring and yet destructive, and yet, we can't help but root for the movie of his life to conclude with the happy ending he keeps expecting.
