To be more specific, 4-4.3 stars.

“Life is not a PG feel-good movie. Real life often ends badly. Literature tries to document this reality, while showing us it is still possible for us to endure nobly.”

Pat Peoples sees his life as a movie with a happy ending. That happy ending, for him, is finally being reunited with his wife, Nikki. After spending years at a mental facility, Pat Peoples tries to get his life back, more so, his wife back. Silver Linings Playbook narrates the events of Pat

Hands down the best novel I have read throughout 2012.

In a year where I have been reading magical realism/fantasy/sci-fi novels mostly, Silver Linings Playbook seemed to be a depressing read (since it deals with real life which isn't always fun) but I was proven completely wrong in the end. The story revolves around Pat, a 34 year old guy who has just left a mental institution and is trying assimilate back into our supposedly 'sane' society, and in the process he tries his best to stick to his

If I had high expectations about this one it surely surpassed them!

It has a little less sugar than the movie, and Pat's journey is more about accepting that life is not a movie and bad things happen, but the more depressing "truths" really make the book an extraordinary read. First of all it explains a lot, for example why Tiffany found closure for her husband's death by sleeping with every man she could get her eyes on (there's actually a meaningful reason for it).

For those who saw the movie fi

This is one of those stories that touch on a very sensitive topic: mental illnesses and how people cope with it.

It's ironic that sometimes those who have something wrong with their marbles are the one who observe the most in their everyday life. They're the ones who reflect most of the time. And we see here that even though the protagonist is the one with the mental illness, he's not the one who acts wrong most of the time. Not like his father, who bases how he treats his family on how his favo

At first I did not think I would like this novel with so many football references, being that I am not really into football. But as I got into the book, I really did end up enjoying it, espcially the football and feeling like your team is part of your family.

Only gave it 4 stars because I felt it could have had a much better ending for Pat & Tiffany. Hoping the movie switches up the story with a romantic twist.

Spectacular story! Such a confusing strew of emotions from all characters and a mutual understanding of friendship, love, acceptance, & healing. Wonderful read!

Very different than the movie but equally as enchanting! The novel focuses more on Pat's relationships between himself/his family and himself/reality. Told through his point of view, his voice is endearing, realistic, and easy to empathize with. Breezed right through it! ...more
