Sorta Like a Rock Star is a young adult novel written by Matthew Quick, the same author who wrote the popular novel Silver Linings Playbook.

The novel has somewhat of a slow start, as you begin to get acquainted with the main character of the story, Amber Appleton. She is a girl who is living homeless with her mother on a school bus. Even though she is considered to be somebody at the lower end of society, she has an incredible amount of hope, which is challenged through the course of the novel.

wow -- the kind of young adult book that transcends the genre (ie, you don't have to be a young adult to love this one). a fantastic first person voice, some hilarious scenes, emotional turmoil, and dozens of haiku. It all makes for a fast-paced but wonderful read.

The good news: you can pre-order on Amazon already! I just feel bad for those of you who will have to wait until May 2010 to read it!

WOW! What a book! Matthew Quick definitely out did Silver Linings Playbook with this one. I definitely got some odd looks from my students during our silent reading time as I finished the book. I was both laughing and crying through the last 2 chapters!!!
