Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres to read. I love that this book is based on a true story. It makes it even better.
You will fall in love with Pete in this book. Such a humble, kind and patient man. So gentle. I love how he proves himself to June. He is steady and solid. I sometimes wanted to throttle June but hurts manifest themselves in all kinds of ways. This book was a pleasure to read, a sigh of relief after reading a couple of stories that produced frequent "eye-rolls" and several barely stifled groans of frustration with the author. For me, admittedly, reading is an escape, pure entertainment. But even so, the characters have to be real. They have to behave in a way that makes sense. This is a beautiful story slow blooming romance with enough interest and emotional tension to keep you hooked from the first page to the last.
Pete is a guy well worth loving. And with his own misfortunes and difficult past, he's the right one to help June get over hers.
If she'll let him in. She's past trusting any male except her Pa.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys romance and wonderful male heroes.
