I read all of Georgette Heyer's books in my teens and enjoyed most of them thoroughly. Now, twenty years later, I've decided to re-read them since they've been enjoying an upsurge in popularity and have been re-released in such an attractive format. I could not remember if I'd read this one or not, and now I realize why I found False Colours so forgettable. For some reason, though I usually enjoy Heyer's books so very much, this one found me struggling to finish. I had to read it in stops and starts. While Heyer is a master of period dialogue, her glee in its use, her delight in Regency exclamations, nicknames, colloquialisms and slang, though normally very enjoyable, bogs down the action too often in this story. The plot in this book was fun for me to read because it's about two twin boys and their mother. Of course, being a mother of twins I felt an instant connection. Other than that, I really don't have any other reason to recommend it. At times it was a chore to read this book. I felt obligated to finish it which my husband Jason reminds me "You should only feel that way about a book you have to read for school".
