I'm in a Georgette Heyer reading phase currently. So yes this is another book by her, my 3rd one this week. I'll likely take a break to catch up on a few other books I need to get read but will definitely come back to Heyer's novels soon as there are still over a dozen of her books I want to read.

This is my first Heyer book, which was recommended to me by a new friend on GoodReads (Thanks Deb!). It took me a little while to get into the language and style of the book, but I was soon hooked. The story is told from a few different perspectives, which gives you a good insight into what exactly everyone is thinking. The story did remind me a little of Pride and Prejudice, but Heyer gives it a unique twist. I really liked Phoebe’s character; she isn’t y ...more

This book is a fantastic example of Georgette Heyer's creativity and flexibility, even while working in a very restricted setting and traditional plot arc: With a hero very much like Mr. Darcy and a heroine similar to Catherine Morland, you may expect nothing more than a decent little regency re-hash. If you did, you would be very surprised.

I'm really liking Heyer's regency romances! This one centers on Sylvester, a rich young man who decides to search for a wife who is a "good match" without letting romance or tenderness into the equation. The story is full of funny situations, lively dialog, and clever characterizations. I still like Frederica the most, but this was definitely good as well.

I hate when I forget to rate books - I read this one while the twins were in the hospital - not much free time.
Sylvester is so Darcy-esque - this is my favorite thing about this book. He is misbranded by everyone including (or especially) Phoebe. The scrapes she gets herself into are super fun.

Still loved this one. Maybe my favorite Heyer.

Georgette Heyer at her best! Her characters are so unique and infused with so much life I feel like I'm laughing with them through the whole story. And the storyline just made the whole book a really fun ride. One of my favorite Heyer novels I think. Makes me wonder what other Heyer gems I've missed...I think I've read almost all of them by now.

Loved it, great characters, great dialogue, entertaining story. Far easier to read than the other two Heyer books I've read, not so much unnecessary details to wade through.
