I have to admit, it took me longer than usual to get into this book. It took nearly the whole first half—which is really unusual for me with a Discworld book. I think it’s because I was expecting this to be the witches as I knew them, and yet for the majority of the first half of the book, Granny Weatherwax was off doing something on her own. And so the character dynamic wasn’t quite the same, and it took me half of the book to adjust. Once I did, though? I was all in.

This story was a tiny bit slow to start, but what made it a four stars to 4.5 rather than a five stars to 4.5 was most of the vampire scenes, except for the last two, were too long and a bit boring for me. The witches parts of the story were excellent.

I had a good time with this book and it was better than I anticipated. I don't remember if I had seen vampires before (probable one or two in Ankh-Morpork), but I hadn't actually been a long time with them, so this was interesting. The Count striked me as someone who thought he had the most original ideas to have a "good" relationship with his food... but this was clearly not going to work so long as witches were around.
