Get ready for some steam at DemiCon 25, the silver anniversary of Des Moines’ annual SCI-FI, FANTASY, and GAMING convention, May 2nd through 4th! DemiCon 25 is celebrating this milestone year with a STEAMPUNK theme: “Hi-Yo, Silver! Celebrate Away!”
Bring your bustles and bowlers, parasols and pocket watches, gloves and gaiters. Show off your steampunk finery at the Time Travelers’ Ball on Friday. Wear your favorite alternate-history raiment all weekend! To further satisfy your costuming desires, DemiCon 25 has three costume competitions (for all ages and skill levels), a Doctor Who themed group portrait, and even a Children’s Costume Parade.
DemiCon’s impressive range of programming and events includes panels, discussions, workshops, music, art show, dealer room, ConSuite, LARP, films, contests, room parties, teen lounge, children’s activities, and rollicking camaraderie with a hotel full of delightful people. DemiCon is popular with many genres of fandom, such as animé, steampunk, horror, technology, history, sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming. Meet professional artists and authors, including a couple of Hugo winners.
Go to www.demicon.org to find out more about our Guests of Honor Tee Morris, Professional Guests, volunteer opportunities, theme, and so much more. You can get your convention membership on-line (click “Convention” under the “Registration” menu) or at the door. The discounted rate is available on-line through April 1st.
DemiCon is hosted by the nonprofit Des Moines Science Fiction Society, and is run by dedicated volunteers. DemiCon 25 supports Reach Out and Read Iowa (www.reachoutandreadiowa.org).
