I'm guessing that's because of what you did to her friend. Worse case scenario, she lied to Gayathri about it and she's mad at you for a fictional reason.

I guess give her time, or at least ask how's she's doing at the best time for you.

You're not doing anything wrong, you're alright. It's you're other friends who made a mistake. They're bullying you at this point for being yourself. They're jealous how you're the teacher's pet in a way and that you haven't been punished.

To have friends that want your downfall seriously and not as like a joke to laugh about, you doing the right thing cutting them off. Plus, they were assuming and just wanted payback for you.

Gayathri's friend deserved what she did. Though you should've screamed at her, you could've prank her back or something. Telling it to a teacher may depend at times at their conscience if really is just petty..

It really isn't your fault, like you said, the teacher is familiar with you and she's new. Of course she'll need someone to call a student she can recall easily than having awkward calls.
