Codex Alera? (What can I say, I love popcorn fantasy)
Monster Hunter series? (I know I'm being unpopular here, but man, th..."Nice! I'll have to check these out. Thanks!

Yes, by a vote of 2 to 1 and 1, this book is the winner for our group read for the month of April. Then mid-April I'll put up a poll to select our May group read.

I will post the poll for May's Group read on April 15th. What do you suggest we read? I'll prob include Redshirts and Wool again as they were voted on last time. Anything else?

So we begin the first of hopefully many discussions. Post your thoughts and/or questions below.

Not sure if this is an April Fool's joke, but here's the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dempsey's take on World War Z.

Which setting or world would you want to be character in?

Battle of the magic users...who wins?
Sean wrote: "That might make for a good audio book as I travel back and forth to Portland."Yes. Let me know what you think.

You may be right Sean, and that is why I specifically referenced Game of Thrones. But why I rank it high for me is the layers of stories in this world. I like that there is so much going on behind the scenes and in the history and the fantasy stuff was in the past, almost like mythology or legends. And there is a slow build up. Maybe too slow, but it isn't like all of the sudden there was no magic and now everyone has magic. My biggest frustration is his duel time line storytelling because I have a hard time remembering what happened where and when. But then that is also some of the fun. I like maps.

You'll know it when you see it.
I just included it since it is a category that Goodreads uses. But I guess for me it is stories about ghosts, monsters, vampires, were-things, parapsychology, ESP, telekinesis, weird science (although that may cross over into sci-fi), etc.
I don't know...it will make for a good debate.
Sean wrote: "That book has never been on my radar; would you'd advise me to read it?"I really enjoyed it. Much better than the movie. In fact, the only thing to me they share is the title and they are both about zombies. I have heard that the audiobook version is really good as there are different famous voice actors.

World War Z by Max Brooks

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

What do you think is the best paranormal book or series?

Good choice Sean. I am partial right now to Song of Ice and Fire series, specifically Game of Thrones. Also I really enjoyed King's The Eyes of the Dragon.
