889288 The winner of the March book of the month is Sunny by Jason Reynolds. This novel comes from the book list of the late Kobe Bryant. As a legendary athlete and author in his own right, we are excited to dive into a book about an elite track star recommended by the black mamba himself. #legendsneverdie #mambamentality

889288 Happy New Year!! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break!!

The theme for our January read is Fiction! #itwasjustmyimagination

No voting on a book this month as we did not want to disturb the holiday season with book polls. Instead we selected a popular new fiction novel The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This book received rave reviews and we cannot wait to dive in and see what the story is all about.

889288 The theme for December is sequels #dontcallitacomeback!

No voting on a book this month, as we have planned to jump back in the Legacy of the Orisha and read the highly anticipated sequel Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi. Children of Blood and Bone, Tomi's debut novel, was an amazing book and we cannot wait to dive into the next chapter of this story.

889288 The winner for the November book of the month is Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes! We have heard great things about this book and cannot wait to dance it out, stand in the sun, and be our own people. As we close out this year, we figured this was a great time to refocus and recenter as we move toward 2020.

See the save the date for the November brunch attached.

889288 The winner for the October book of the month is The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin! This book is a part of a book series called The Broken Earth. We have heard some good things about this series and are super excited to dive into this book. Sci-Fi/Fantasy is not always a genre that we see minority authors heavily represented in; so glad that we are able to shine a light on this author and her work. See this link http://nkjemisin.com/ to check out some of her other books.
