88432 Laura, I also have 2 or 3 holds out on locked door mysteries but who knows when they will come.

How do I know that a book is tagged that way? I don't see it on the main page on Goodreads.

88432 I think they look more like berries.

88432 I am at an uncomfortable point here. I underestimated my number of books because I didn't like the pressure of having to read a higher number. I put in 6 books to read for the mini but realize that I might be taking book options from other people. I wondered what Laura's philosophy is on this since she is planning to read most of our books. Do you just wait until everyone else takes cards and tasks? And then do the remainder? Would it be helpful for me to take some of my books out of the mini and check back when everyone else has taken some choices? I'm just not sure of the etiquette. I will probably read between 14 and 18 books this month but should I wait to put them in to give everyone else a chance to participate?

Hi Sehrish,

I was just looking over the planning for the mini and I had a question about The Love Hypothesis and The Wrath and the Dawn. You want to those for the word BUILDER and GARDEN spelled in the titles. Did you mean to use those somewhere else because they don't work there.

The way I understand it you can use the same book for both the mini challenge and the uno card. You just can't use a book you finish before the mini challenge starts.

88432 I have put some books in. I am not in any other challenges so I can stack my books pretty well this weekend.

88432 Great! So the best idea right now is to not finish books in the next 3 days. Read now but save finishing until after the Mini Challenge, right?

88432 Are we going to have a planning spreadsheet for these mini tasks? I already know several books I will be reading the next 2 weeks that will meet the tasks.

88432 Wow! That’s a lot of choices. I think I read more books that take place in cities but also read a number in small towns. I don’t really have a preference.

Hmm- Maybe I will reread it after Uno is over. Although if last year is any indication, I won't be interested in reading at all after this challenge. It burned me out.

I enjoyed The Westing Game. I had never read it before but my daughter had and I saw it on some recommended lists so I thought it was time for me to cross it off my list. I spend half the book frustrated the suspects couldn't figure out the song from the clues. And then thought I was so smart that I had but I was wrong. Ack! There were so many twists at the end that I may need to go back to decipher it all.

Thanks, I didn't realize it until I started reading the book. The Goodreads page identifies it as a setting.

Glad you are feeling better. This book reminds me that I wish we could give fractional point ratings to books. I liked the deduction parts of the book but didn't care for the backstory either. It was like a totally different book and style within the story. I would have given it a 3.5 but I rounded up. I plan to try another to see if the same issues appear in other books.

Your comment reminds me I have been thinking about my green book. The location is Huckleberry Hills which is not the name of a city but a subdivision in a suburb. Will this still work for a location?

88432 I have a question about using a character. I just finished a book that in the last 3 pages of the book the main character interacted with his baby, Veronica. She obviously does not have dialogue but she is more than a passing character. Can we use it for a card?

Yay for the negative test but it stinks to feel sick for no good reason. Take care of yourself.

It looks like you know about the Modern Mrs. Darcy blog site (since you are reading one of her books) Here is a link to her most recent list of audiobooks she recommends. https://modernmrsdarcy.com/favorite-a...
She has other posts about good audiobooks, you just have to search around her website. She made such a difference in my reading life a few years ago, introducing me to new favorite authors and book experiences.

I like to have a book on audio and in print (or ebook) so I can refer back as I listen. I listened and really enjoyed the Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series last year. It is science fiction with an emphasis on relationships, kindness and tolerance. Unfortunately the books are long so not necessarily great for UNO.

I like listening to audio that the author reads. I have enjoyed David Sedaris books and Ali Wong's Dear Girls. I have heard the the audio for Daisy Jones and the Six is excellent - lots of different voices. I loved that book but haven't listened to it.

Hope you feel better soon and find a good book to listen to when you are better.

Laura- I am so sorry you are sick. Hope it isn't too bad and you feel better soon.

Carlie and Elli- I loved Migrations and really liked Once there were Wolves but not quite as much as Migrations.

I am happy to report I have finished 2 books today and updated the spreadsheet. I make no promises that I will keep this up but I know in UNO last year, I started strong and read almost half the books I read all of last year in the 3 months of UNO. We are getting a major snow and ice storm tomorrow so I expect to get some more reading done.
