Like a lot of series, you could read any one and have a complete story but they are inter-related, more like each one introduces the next one in the series. Characters from the earliest books might be mentioned or referred to but they don't play a part in the later books. If there is something you need to know, the author is good about explaining it within the context of the story.

Review:
I enjoyed this installment quite a bit. It started out a bit slow but eventually got going. The tensions in Chicago are escalting and not all in the way we thought. I liked that we had Ethan and Merit's relationship moving forward some without all of the back and forth drama with them. It'll be interesting to see what comes next. Not sure how I feel about the ending. although I suppose it did it's job to make me anxious for the next one!
