842796 Oh I read this in 2016 and it lives rent free in my mind. It really reminds me of Jaycee Lee Duggards “A Stolen Life”.

842796 It was better than I expected it to be. I liked the moral dilemmas faced by the protagonist. The romance was fun. Not amazing, but not bad

842796 just started this one!

842796 I’m just a little harsh when it comes to ratings. To me, 5 is reserved for really very standout books. I only read a a few of those a year. 4 is really very good. 3 is good. 2 is fine. 1 is bad.

I think rating everything 5 stars doesn’t really provide useful information.

I just had quite a few things I had issue with in this book. The style was somewhat dense but also immature somehow. I didn’t love the fixation in the women’s beautiful appearance before, as if pretty people are less deserving of tragedy. The extension is that it’s less tragic if it happens to ugly people. It was weird. There was also some shying away from proper medical terminology. I didn’t like when the referred to it as “bleeding down below”. I felt it was immature. Say what is going on. It also just didn’t grip me the way some nonfiction has in the past. It’s wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t that good.

842796 Also, while I'm here, do you take requests? I've been reading a ton lately and often don't have people to talk to about my fav's.

842796 Just finished with it and you're right. The details were horrible. All the stuff about the bedside testimony and about their mouths.

I did have one thing that just drove me crazy. They were saying they needed bone to prove that they had radium poisoning for the early tests and that bone could only be acquired when they were dead. However, at least one of the victims actively had pieces of her jaw falling out. I wonder why they didn't test those pieces.

842796 you've convinced me. It's next on my list. Tbh I could use a palette cleanser after reading Throne of Glass.

True! Their dynamic was one of my favorite parts.

I was actually just recommended to me Mistborn today. Knowing that it is similar to crows makes me way more interested.

I'm not sure it would fit in well with the other books you've read. Every few pages it covers a different bad ass woman from history. It's fun to flip through, but I wouldn't sit down and read it cover to cover.

Very helpful! thankyou! I don't mind stuff getting wordy as long as it's well done. I love a well-constructed world with a unique feel and good character development.
842796 This one sounds so good, but I've been reading a lot of dark subject matter lately. I'm worried my shelf is going to make me look like a dangerous person.

I could see it being slow for some people. I just loved how it ended. I felt the imagery was strong and beautiful. I wanted to escape into the marsh with her and see all of her little treasures.

I found her motivations for different interpersonal relationships to be the most interesting part. It wasn't plot-heavy, which I'm discovering I often enjoy.

842796 This topic seems fascinating. I love learning about forgotten women of history. It seems the best way to honor them.
Again, my question always is how was the experience reading this?

I like when the author keeps things interesting. I don't really want a dry read.

842796 I've heard this book is very influential. I've had to read excepts for classes several times.

Now influential is different from good. Did you like it? Was it fun? I'm worried it will be dry and dense.

842796 I avoided this one for a while. I feared it would be overrated. It was so good, despite not being a genre I usually enjoy.

I couldn't even tell you why I liked it. I just did. Just a solid book.

What are your thoughts?

842796 A banger of a book. Loved the dynamic between the crows. Obsessed with Nina and Matthias. Loved Kaz's backstory; literally unhinged. Him and Inej, chef's kiss.

Has anyone seen the show shadow and bone? What did you think? Tbh I found the crows to be so much more interesting than the main plot.
842796 The first part of this book was just about architecture, and I couldn't get through it. Does it get good? If so, when?
