
I'm not doing the group read but still want to share this really great article by Elizabeth Kolbert. It's in part a review of
Countdown but also an essay, as some of those reviews tend to be. It stuck in my mind to the extent I had to look it back up and read it again.

I am not sure in which discussion this comment fits, but just wanted to make a note of a tidbit I heard on the radio today: There was a baby boomlet associated with the government shutdown in the US somewhat over 9 months ago!

This strikes me as one of those initiatives that cuts across or muddies the difference in how "conservative" and "progressive" are usually viewed, considering its survivalist aspects. Food for thought! Am I the only one who wonders about stuff like that?
