My name is Heinz Kohler and I am new to this group. Possibly my comment can start a discussion on the proper use of data in research. I am a retired college professor and have taught Economics and Statistics at Amherst College for many years. Lately I have become increasingly annoyed by the flood of misleading medical news, based on sloppy research procedures, which the slightest bit of statistical knowledge could expose for what it is. These thoughts have given rise to a recent book, CAUTION: SNAKE OIL! How Statistical Thinking Can Help Us Expose Misinformation About Our Health.
Anyone interested can sample the book at www.cautionsnakeoil.com (where the paperback version is on sale) or, more importantly perhaps, can have a look at my blog at my goodreads profile. Also, I am currently running a giveaway on GR and a new Kindle edition is now available at Amazon.
