80482 Helen's Daimones is free for two days (Kindle promotion)...starting now

"Helen is one of the stranger heroes to feature in swords & sorcery. Is she delusional, mad, gifted? I was never quite sure — she is only a little girl — but I was never able to take my eyes off her" - Fletcher Vredenburgh from Blackgate

The Dyscrasia novels by S.E. Lindberg are deep, intricate reads that harken back to the pulp days of Lovecraft, Howard, and others... Helen's Daimones is weird fantasy, weirdly told, for weird readers."- Bob Milne Beauty in Ruins - Speculative and Imaginative Fiction

Helen's Daimones its the gateway novella for Dyscrasia Fiction. Helen and Sharon are orphans haunted by supernatural diseases, insects, and storms. They are your tour guides in this entry-way novella into Dyscrasia Fiction which explores the choices humans and their gods make as a disease corrupts their souls, shared blood and creative energies. In Helen’s Daimones, guardian angels are among the demons chasing the girls. When all appear grotesquely inhuman, which ones should they trust to save them?

80482 Into Weird Fiction? Fungal Love?

I really enjoyed The Beauty and reviewed it.

It's not proper S&S, but fans of Clark Ashton Smith would enjoy this body horror book.

I also interviewed Aliya Whiteley, who has written over thirty novellas and short stories in a range of genres. Her excellent novella The Beauty offers a compact dose of weird fiction in which humanity is evolving into mushrooms. It is entirely unique, but could be described as a mashup of Kafka’s body horror (The Metamorphosis), Golding's social dynamics (Lord of the Flies), and James' infertile dystopia (The Children of Men). “The Beauty” is an action-packed tale saturated with philosophy on "what is beautiful?" and "what is humanity?", a true must-read for those who enjoy intellectual meat (shrooms?) with their adventure fiction.

Let’s learn more about Aliya Whiteley and her muses.

Does she eat mushrooms?

To offer free books, Randy, is it as easy as posting a note?

80482 Always good to ask.

I started to browse reddit and instantly picked up on the same tone as you guys mention.... those moderators have to work hard!

That said, they have same nice AMA (ask me anything events) of well known authors. There seems to be a place/use in reddit for readers which differs from GR.

80482 I am curious about Reddit. Met Steve Drew who moderates the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy and was considering trying it out... perhaps creating a connection here (that group on reddit also has a GR group associated with it).

Any members here have thoughts about reddit?

80482 Crap, I tried to send the link out by "all member message" and the URL's got messed up.

Because of SPAM rules, I can't send a fix-it message until tomorrow :).

80482 I am thinking we make an award... calling it the "Sweet Mary Joseph!" Sword-n-Sorcery participation award (the SMJ SnS PA, for initialism lovers).

I've used that joke before, but am half-serious about an honorary award.

80482 If our group had reading-participation awards, Mary and Joseph would get them. Appreciate you guys sharing so much. Wish I could keep pace!

80482 Ok, I just geeked out at the 51st Gencon, volunteering at the Writer's Symposium.

Howard Andrew Jones is a regular there, so I could revert to a kid and have him sign my Tales from the Magician's Skull #1 (and my Legion of the Skull membership card).

Anyway, in addition to furthering Tales of the Magician's Skull... he is taking on the role of Executive Editor with Cabinet Entertainment's new Perilous Worlds:

What's up in the line up... but another Conan book from John C. Hocking, who wrote Conan and the Emerald Lotus. I believe this next book will be called "Conan and the Living Plague", which may have been written for Tor but never published---I need to confirm that).

80482 I needed a dose of body-horror and weird fiction, and read The Beauty. This edition comes with a bonus story, which is less exciting for me... but the primary tale rocks.
