4/29: Rumble? (13 new)
Apr 29, 2013 06:04PM

78713 Ponyboy decides to fight because of many reasons. One reason he decides to fight is to avenge Johnny. The whole reason why Johnny is in the state he is in is because of the Socs. Johnny had to kill one of the Socs because Bob was drowning Ponyboy so he stabs him and then leading onto further. Another reason why Ponyboy decides to fight is not for him but for the Greasers. Though they waited quite some time for this rumble and now they have it.

Ponyboy's decision to fight wasn't the best. For example, he already knows that fighting is pointless even Randy knows that as well. Whoever wins doesn't change the fact that they are Greasers and they are Socs. Another example is he is risking his life, just to beat the Socs. They already know what's going to happen and nothing will change.
4/22 Change (12 new)

78713 In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy's attitude towards Darry changed. One way Ponyboy's attitude changed was when Ponyboy finally got to see his brothers for quite some time. He was starting to worry. But even after running away for a couple of days, he still cared about Darry as well as Darry cared about Ponyboy. This shows that Ponyboy's attitude toward Darry changed. Another example of Ponyboy's attitude toward Darry has changed through the end of chapter 6. Darry was sorry for hitting Ponyboy but Ponyboy didn't care. He was happy he got to see his brothers again.
3/19: Conflict (14 new)

78713 In the realistic fiction book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton my character is Dallas or Dally. Dally is the toughest of all greasers and he really is one of a kind. He doesn't have much of a conflict because he is the toughest and the only thing he does have to care about is the greasers. Otherwise, nothing else.

78713 The definition I think works best for community is a mix of 2 and 3. I say this because most people in a community usually share the same interest. When people share the same interest, they usually start a collaboration or group project. This then makes a common goal for all of them. One example is a youtube video called The Bannedstory Collab features five maplestory animators join together and create a collab. This is showing that they weree in a community of the same interest and were able to make a big thing out of it.

78713 My research paper is on how kids are affected by video games. Over the past couple of years there were numerous murders because of video games. Such as the incident in Newtown. The murderer Adam Lanza killed about twenty people and there were kids. The most logical reason was a video game as he was thought to reenact a game. But Scientist say otherwise. Scientist have shown that kids or teens are not affected by video games through a series of test. This is what fascinated me. There are some people who are and some are not. This baffled me so a question rang in my head, Does it or does it not?

78713 In the book ATD by Sherman Alexie, the big main role that Arnold is born into is the fact that he is a Native. Living on reservations when the Natives once had the whole USA to themselves but now, they live on a wasteland. Alcohol and money were the smaller problems under the big main one. Sometimes I wonder when the Natives got interested in alcohol. Also money, if people did not buy alcohol, they could have used the cash to repair or improve the reservation and make it a better place to live but alcohol controls their minds. However, at Reardan, he felt like something bigger. People thought that he was rich because they work at or own casinos. This was a big stereotype.

Also Arnold wants to become even bigger than his imagination. Towards the end of the book, he talks with Rowdy during the basketball game. Rowdy says he is going to be the biggest nomad in all Indian history. Imagination is big but Arnold's actions are even bigger.
11/7: Amazing (14 new)

78713 In the Realistic Fiction novel, Th Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, Arnold says "If you let people into your life a little bit, they can be pretty damn amazing." When Arnold stated this line/quote, he basically means that if you tell people about yourself, maybe they will accept you for who you are. But another course would be you lied to them or they can't accept you because of this and that. But since Penelope asked, "Are you poor?" She told Roger and he thinks that Roger is going to use that and take advantage of him. However he didn't. This is why I think he said, "If you let people into your life a little bit, they can be pretty damn amazing. He is referring to the Reardan kids.

Plus I can relate to Arnold because when I was in 6th grade, I was bullied in the middle of winter. 2 other boys were jumping on top of me and one of them was spitting om me which was gross. After the incident, during math, Mr.Kruger notice I had a sad face on and he called the guidance counselor, Ms. Schwenzer, and she asked me to tell what happened. I told her about how kids were spitting on me. She instantly knew that this had to be reported to the Dean. We spoke and filled out incident reports. After he finished they boys had detention and he also called up my mom. Back when it was in elementary school, we usually dealt with these problems with ourselves. Teachers was never an option but now I finally told someone about it and it was nice to get something off my chest

78713 In the realistic fiction novel, The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Arnold is a fourteen year old Native American boy who is currently suffering from the choices he has made. Even in Reardan, he second guesses the teachers and they get proved wrong by Gordy but he gets yelled at for saying something. That is basically one of the reason for "Slouching Towards Thanksgiving." He is slouching and my definition for slouching is hes being looked down on. Other people like bullies as well. This is essentially why the chapter is called "Slouching Towards Thanksgiving"

78713 In Sherman Alexie's realistic fiction, The absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, the quote "There is perhaps nothing so bad and so dangerous in life as fear." This quote relates to Arnold because Arnold's life so far in the book, he is an unloved hermit but he wants to travel around meeting new people but doesn't receive that courage until Mr.P comes along. Mr.P had talked him into leaving the rez and he decided to be reborn. He has a new start in Reardan. Arnold is scared of leaving the rez because of how Rowdy would react. However, at page 51, it says,"Man, I was scared of those Reardan kids, and maybe I was scared of hope, too, but Rowdy absolutely hated all of it "Rowdy," I said. "I'm going to Reardan tomorrow."" This shows me that Arnold had worked up enough courage to tell Rowdy. But Rowdy didn't think it was for real. Then at page 52,Rowdy shouted, " Don't touch me you retarded fag!" This can also tell me that Arnold is a bit scared of his former best friend Rowdy. he has also been punched in the face, Arnold's most sensitive spot. But since he has a mix of both Rowdy and Reardan, this proves the quote and Arnold is scared of both and yet they can lead to dangerous paths but he thinks positively towards these 2 things
10/9: Roles (15 new)
Oct 09, 2012 06:20PM

78713 In the book, I think the role that affected Arnold's life is the fact that he is an Indian. Since he is an Indian, there are many links and stereotypes to his life. This topic is the main and general idea of what Arnold is like and people can probably figure out that he might not be like the others around him. He is different when it comes to the outside, texture details and his appearance but on the inside he is someone screaming for help but cannot be reached in a way. That is the biggest problem and instead of writing and speaking in words he draws out the situation and I think that is really creative.
A role that i was born into and really affects my life is being Asian. As well suspected, every Asian parent or guardian are expected high grades of their kids. But i disagree because not everyone is bright and not perfect including me when I do dumb things. But that doesn't change the fact that we are human. We have flaws in our lives but every Asian parent expect straight A's but some may have difficulty learning. The fact that a lot of people ask us Asians for help makes me think that we are the smartest of people. But some aren't This is one big stereotype.
