I really enjoyed the part about how much fear impacts human reasoning and body.

I just finished "Unbroken" by Laura Hinderbrand which is also a story about shipwrecks. I guess I can`t escape the theme, lol. I have to say that 'the death of the zebra' part really shook me up and I`m really curious now how it was presented in the movie. To those of you who`ve seen the movie, which is more drastic: the scene in the movie or the description in the book?

My husband is an atheist and it made him a really open-mined and tolerant person.
Anyway, I`m growing on this book. Just read about Pi trying instinctively to save Richard Parker just to realize that actually it`s not a good idea to share the raft with a wild beast!

True, but to me mixing comes more naturally if it is part of your heritage/culture rather than sudden decision to take it up.

I find the religion part intersting but extremely unconvincing. Why whould an invididual with just a simple desire to love God go to so much trouble and practice painstaking rituals of the main world religions? Still of course, I find it entertaining as a ficition piece.

Love in the times of cholera

I love the description of the animals, their behavior and the "animal" behavior of the zoo visitors. The author also teriffically comments on world religions. So far so good!

Hi,
My name is Gosia Mitchell. Originally from Poland but for the past 12 years I`ve lived in NY, now on Long Island. I`m an avid reader. At this point I don`t read trash anymore but mostly dense reads that require more thought and focus. I love discussing books, learning from the stories and relating to them.
