Himani, you hit it perfectly, that should be why we read books :) and I'm guessing that is why people write them. Seems a shame when school kids have to read certain books and lose their love for reading :)

I'm hoping to be a High School English teacher too, (and also called Kate, haha) Would be interesting to find out what you are reading and compare notes!

78394 Beloved by Toni Morrison is one of my favourite book.

The Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, a prequel to Jane Eyre I think is a must read classic, especially if you have read/studied Jane Eyre.

The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. I was supposed to read this for my degree, but didn't! I think guilt is making me want to read it now.

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

78394 Hello, I'm Kate. I'm currently trying to read as many of the classics as I can which may appear in English curriculum, as I am hoping to be an English teacher. So discussion about them would be really helpful and hopefully keep me reading :)

If I could travel in time, there's a whole bunch of things I would see and do! I would love to go all the way back to meet Jesus, just for a chat, I think he would be a very interesting person to have a brew and a chat with! Salam in the 1600's to see what was going on there, but knowing my luck, I'd probably be persecuted too, and 1960's America, which was a time of great change, both good and bad, but to be caught up in that wave of change and expression I think would be amazing :)
