The Bell Jar is an interesting insight within the mind of a young woman trying to find her way in the world, but at the same time lost in the fog of perception and reality. Plath makes the reader want to reach into every sentence of Esther's and help her through this story, but then Esther comes back in the very next sentence with a clear understanding of the choices she is making. Her rational sits the reader right back down. There was really nothing the reader could have done. Plath just keeps you hooked within Esther's story and unfortunately unable to look away. God, I hate reality tv, but i just can't seem to look away. Or this is just what i got from the book. I could be wrong?
Hi-de-ho there good neighbor. My name is Jason and I am a resident in the wonderful state of California. Specifically, I am born and raised in the Central Valley. Think Caesar Chavez and dairy farming meets habitual commuting. I think i have to say my favorite book, hands down is Gulliver's Travels...those crazy Yahoos...it's the one book that i love to take when i travel. Cliche, yes, but we all take comfort in something ventured. My favorite trashy novel...for guys is the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. Favorite genre has to be classic southern literature. And yes I'm talking about everything from southern bells to the contemptuous American Identity. My senior thesis was in this area, so i found an appreciation for the vintage.
So i found that i was getting tired of reading and having no one to help chew the cud...you finish a book and need to vent, analyse or metaphorically just bash the crap out of the author, critically, for the previous hours invested reading. I started looking for a place to converse on lit. and ended up here.
I have just started an endeavor to stumble through the works of Elena Ferrante. Her first book Troubling Love was a torturous journey into the modern feminist genre, but if you still read for fun then a bit of mental abuse can be misconstrued as literary self-development. I'm, if anything, a glutton for punishment.
Favorite word: Cheers. Marsupials. Oh and anything spelled in European English. I laugh a little every time, right after i had to go back and read the word again.
